UPDATE: 6 Killed in building collapse
Karnataka, India
Originally reported on 7th October, 2016
The death toll from the collapse of a five storey building last Wednesday in the city of Bengaluru has risen to six after emergency crews recovered more bodies from the rubble over the weekend.
As was previously reported, preliminary findings suggest that sub-standard building materials being used in the project lead to the building buckling under its own weight.
In addition to sub-standard materials being used, local officials have also claimed that building approval had only been given for a three storey structure, and that construction on an additional two floors had been without government approval.
