On killed and six injured in explosion
Ngounié, Gabon
An explosion at an oil collection facility in the central region of Ngounié on Saturday has left one worker dead and six others with a range of burns injuries. The blast involved a large storage tank at the facility which is believed to have contained approximately 2,000 barrels of oil. The body of the deceased worker was discovered by rescue workers on Sunday. All injured workers were airlifted to a nearby hospital. The cause of the blast is currently under investigation.
Road workers struck by motorist
New Mexico, USA
Two road construction workers, aged 49 and 54, were killed on Monday after being struck by a motor vehicle along a state road near the town of Roy north east of Albuquerque. The men were repairing potholes along the road when the incident occurred. Local police have confirmed that the 92 year old driver of the vehicle collided with the workers’ truck which then struck the men. The motorist was also seriously injured in the incident. Police have not yet confirmed if he will be charged.
Worker killed by falling object
Dhaka, Bangladesh
A 24 year old construction worker was killed on Wednesday morning at an overpass construction site south of Dhaka after being struck in the head by a falling metal rod. The man had been working below a pylon at the site when the metal bar fell approximately 15m (50ft) from the top of the pylon. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Worker killed in wall collapse
Tamil Nadu, India
A 54 year old worker was killed at a residential construction site in a district south west of Madurai on Tuesday after a wall collapsed at the site. According to local reports, the man was digging foundations for a house when the mud wall of a neighbouring property collapsed on top of him. The man was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Worker struck and killed by falling tree limb
Georgia, USA
A city maintenance worker was killed on Monday following an incident in a northern suburb of Atlanta. The man was trimming a tree from a cherry picker when a branch fell and struck him causing him to fall. The tree limb then fell on top of the man. He was declared dead at the scene.
